NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

Congratulations ATEC!

The Arts and Technology program received the Tech Titan of the Future Award from The Metroplex Technology Business Council on Saturday, Sept. 29.

The award includes $20,000 in scholarship money for ATEC students.

Please join me in congratulating Prof. Thomas Linehan (Director of ATEC), the remarkable cadre of faculty that he has gathered, and the students who are responding so admirably to the opportunities presented by this innovative program.

At the same ceremony, one of our recent graduates, Dr. David Hanson, received the Technology Innovator Award.

ATEC is an educational and research partnership between the School of Arts & Humanities and the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. Recently it received one of the first Innovation in Education Awards from the University of Texas System. Now it has received major recognition from the business community. One of the ways that UT Dallas is creating the future is by developing exemplars of academic innovation, collaboration and cooperation.

Announcing the
Computer Gaming Entrepreneurship Competition

Hughes Ventures, the Institute for Interactive Arts and Engineering, and the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship are proud to sponsor the UT Dallas Computer Gaming Entrepreneurship Competition.

The competition will reward students for startlingly original game concepts that are associated with a strong business plan. Student participants are encouraged to think holistically, prepare a business plan that describes a disruptively original game design, and how it will address a well-defined market. The principles of Hughes Ventures are hopeful this competition will inspire and enable UT Dallas students to produce tomorrow’s leading game designs.

Awards: $12,000 first prize, $7,000 second prize, $5000 third prize
Special Award for Excellence in Innovation: $1,000

Open to UT Dallas students from all schools and levels of study. Registration is open from September 4 to October 5. All teams must attend an Orientation meeting on October 5, 2007. REGISTER HERE NOW!

Subdivided wins an award at WorldFest International Film Festival!

Subdivided (written and directed by UTD faculty member Dean Terry) is a documentary film about life in contemporary suburbia: a personal study of isolation and the struggle to find and maintain community in an era of careless development, the uninspired design of the modern subdivision, urban sprawl, and the invasion of the McMansion.
